AHPRA & Provider Number Cheat Sheet

The essential reference for keeping your registration and billing compliant.

AHPRA Registration

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency is the body that regulates health practitioners in Australia.

Principal Place of Practice (PPP)

You must update your PPP within 30 days of moving or starting at a new clinic. Do this via the AHPRA portal.

Advertising Compliance

Ensure your website and social media don't make unsubstaged claims. No testimonials are allowed in AU allied health advertising.

Professional Indemnity

AHPRA requires a minimum level of cover. Ensure your policy meets the registration standard for your specific profession.

Medicare Provider Numbers

Required to allow your patients to claim rebates. You need a unique number for EVERY location you work at.

The Application (HW019)

Use form HW019 for Allied Health professionals. Online via PRODA is faster than paper.

PRODA Account

You need a PRODA account to access HPOS. This is where you manage your provider numbers and view payments.

Allow 4-6 Weeks

Medicare is notorious for delays. Apply as soon as you have a signed lease or contract.
